Goodreads Summary

Debut-novelist Jenny Elliott’s thrilling romance, chosen by readers, writers, and publishers for the first list in the new Swoon Reads imprint, pours on the tension and danger in an addictive combination that will keep you turning pages!

Something strange is going on in the tiny coastal town of Liberty, Oregon. Cara has never seen a whale swim close enough for her to touch it—let alone knock her into the freezing water. Fortunately, cute newcomer David is there to save her, and the rescue leads to a bond deeper than Cara ever imagined.

But then she learns something about David that changes everything, and Cara is devastated. She turns to her best friend for support, but Rachel has changed. She’s suddenly into witchcraft, and is becoming dangerously obsessed with her new boyfriend….

Cara has lost her best friend, discovered that her soul mate is off limits, and has attracted the attention of a stalker. But she’s not completely alone. Her mysterious, gorgeous new friend Garren is there to support her. But is Garren possibly too perfect?

My Review

I had high expectations for this book and maybe that was the problem. Cara is a whale watcher and on one of her excursions with the new comer David she falls overboard and he saves her. Soon after their life threatening experience he asks for her number and also on a date, she agreed because she felt a connection with him and a voice in her head said she can trust him . Now keep in mind that they just met and yet their already going on a date. I know this may not bother other people but for me it just doesn't work, I'm not even 20 pages in and I'm already having doubts.

ATTENTION: Mini spoilers ahead if you consider less than 40 pages in, spoilers. Read at your own risk.

I tried, I really did but I just couldn't bring myself to keep reading. Cara's character felt flat to me and she wasn't such a compelling narrator either. And then there's the instant love. No, just no. If there's one thing I loathe about reading YA books, its the instant love that some of them contain. (Yes I admit it. I have a love and hate relationship with YA novels.)  I'm on page 30 and she's already fallen for David and kissed him too even though they just met and she knows nothing about him other than him being new in town. Really? I was expecting something different from this book (a swoon worthy thrilling romance like the summary said.) but I guess instant love is all I'm gonna get. I feel bad for DNF-ing this book, especially since I haven't even reached 100 pages yet but I just can't bring myself to do it. I tried to finish this book because I hate leaving books unfinished but as of right now, nope. This book just isn't for me.

Thanks to Emma @ Miss Print for giving me her Arc review copy of Save Me.  ;)

  1. Shame you didn't like this one, I hadn't heard of it before and I'm wary of picking it up... anyways, great review!
