Stacking the Shelves #14

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews  and is all about sharing the books you’re adding to your shelves be it in virtual form or physical. You can include books you’ve won, bought, borrowed from the library or review books.

Hi, everyone! I haven't posted much but hopefully I can get into the motion of things! I only have a short holiday, since I start school again on January which is sooner than expected but that's college for you.  I haven't been physically reading much but I have recently gotten into audiobooks. I wasn't really an audiobook person but after finishing up The Diabolic by S.J. Jones, I needed more.

Now on to the books I've received.....

Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm
The Rift Uprising by Amy S. Foster

I didn't post any stacking the shelves for the past month or two, so these books are from those past months that I missed. I received Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales and Crooked Kingdom as a gift on my birthday in October by my sister. As for The Rift Uprising by Amy S. Foster, I received it in November and have already reviewed it.

These I borrowed from library recently..

I have cut back on borrowing audiobooks from the library, since I went a little audiobook crazy before. So, for now I'm only listening to Starflight and The Star-Touched Queen!

Thanks for stopping by! Leave a comment and/or link to your Stacking the Shelves. I'll make sure to check them out too. Have an awesome weekend!

The Rift Uprising by Amy S. Foster Review

Publisher: Harper Voyager
Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction
Release Date: October 4, 2016
Pages: 380

Normal seventeen-year-old girls go to high school, binge watch TV shows all weekend, and flirt with everyone on the face of the Earth. But Ryn Whitaker is trying to save it.

Ryn is a Citadel. A soldier. A liar. Ryn and her fellow Citadels were specially chosen and trained to guard a Rift—one of fourteen unpredictable tears in the fabric of the universe that serve as doorways to alternate Earths. Unbeknownst to her family, Ryn leaves for school each day and then reports for duty as an elite, cybernetically-altered soldier who can run faster, jump farther, and fight better than a Navy SEAL—which comes in handy when she’s not sure if axe-wielding Vikings or any number of other terrified and often dangerous beings come through the Rift. A fine-tuned weapon, Ryn is a picture-perfect Citadel. But that’s all about to change.

When a young man named Ezra is pulled through the Rift, Ryn finds herself immediately drawn to him, despite her training. What starts as a physical attraction quickly grows deeper, and Ezra’s curiosity throws Ryn off balance when he starts questioning the Rifts, the mysterious organization that oversees them, and the Citadels themselves—questions that lead Ryn to wonder if the lies she’s been telling her family are just the surface of a much bigger lie told to her. As Ryn and Ezra desperately try to get to that truth, they discover that each revelation blurs the line between the villains and the heroes even more.

My Review

The Rift Uprising starts off introducing us to Ryn, the main character whose life is not a normal teenage one. Ryn is a cybernetically-altered soldier and along with her team mates/friends Violet, Boone, and Henry; they are led to believe by the ARC program that being a soldier or Citadel as their called is the only way to keep the world and their families safe. What the ARC entails is that Ryn and other Citadel's like her, guard the Rift a portal that brings in all type's of different beings to their world and make sure that they aren't hostile. Ryn doesn't enjoy killing but she believes what the ARC tells her until all that changes when she meets Ezra.

I admit that I felt put off by how fast Ryn fell head over heals for Ezra but I blame it on the ARC and how it kept all the teenagers in the program sexually frustrated. I mean can you blame them? I can't. The ARC made them incapable of human touch by the opposite sex, for god sake's (read the book if you want to know why because spoilers)! On the other hand though, regardless of what Ryn did I couldn't quite come to dislike her. Yes, she annoyed me at times and made me want to throttle her and tell her to stop thinking with her nether regions.  She still managed to have moments of badassery and also make me laugh.

As for Ezra, the boy who managed to capture Ryn's heart and make her question all that she was led to believe of the ARC, I have mixed feelings for. Not that I didn't like Ezra, in fact I found their romance believable and enjoyed how they grew close enough to trust each other and know each other's boundaries. I also liked how Ezra wasn't quite a push over when it came to Ryn even though she was stronger than him that didn't stop them from clashing. The main reason I have mixed feelings for Ezra is that although he was in the book a lot (after all he is a main character), I felt like we only saw glimpses of his personality. I could also say the same for Violet, Boone, and Henry, I liked their character's and would have liked to have seen more of them.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this book and will definitely be anticipating the next one! Hopefully, with a lot more of Ezra and Ryn's friends. If you're in the mood for some science fiction, romance, and action just check this book out!

Rating: 3 stars

I recieved this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I know I haven't posted much even though I'm back on the blog but I just started school and decided opening an Etsy would be the greatest idea ever. *sarcasm* Seriously? There's a ton of shi*** you have to do (sorry for the curse but it was necessary). I know it's called doing research and making sure you know what you're doing/ready to do it and taking a toooooon of pictures and editing (props to my sister for helping me take pictures). But I thought it wouldn't take me more than one week but it took me two to three weeks or longer I'm not good at keeping track of time.

Yeah that's pretty slow....but I had a lot of arguments (with myself mostly) on whether I should do it or not but I finally decided to do it. How did I finally convince myself to do it? I told myself, people will either like it or won't, it's not like the world's going to end. Just stop putting yourself down and go for it! And I did and I'm pretty proud if I do say so myself.

If you're interested, please check it out!

Why did I name it that way? Well, honestly I wanted to incorporate fairy in my shop title but most were already taken and I just decided with Ethereal Nymph Jewelry and man did it fit well. I didn't even notice until after but most of my jewelry looks nature-like (and shiny, I love the shiny). So, I guess I chose good?

Anyways on to book blogging, I haven't posted any reviews recently but I did finish reading Truthwitch by Susan Dennard but I'm still putting my thoughts together. Did you guys like it? I've also finally read An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir which I loved (need to buy A Torch Against the Night ASAP). So, watch out for those reviews this coming week.

I almost forgot to mention I've also made an Instagram, I haven't posted that much lately but I will. If you want to follow please do, I do follow back and I hope to see your pictures, they might even help me out. Since, I never really know what to take pictures of. So, I feel like I'm pretty much all over the place.

Here's my Instagram or you can just click on the sidebar ~ ISoldMySoulForBooks

Aaaaand that's pretty much it! If you guys have any recommendations or questions on anything leave a comment. Bye!

Long Time No See.....?!

Hey everyone! I hope you all have been well! I know I haven't been on in months and I apologize for that. I know I said I'd only be gone a month but instead it turned into 7 months! Gosh how time flies! Honestly not going on my blog felt so lonely and I missed it, so much.

Moving along, to those of you who are curious the move went well and thankfully me and my family have settled in nicely. But to be honest when we first moved in, it felt weird in a new home, especially since the neighborhood we moved into is very quiet especially at night verrrry different from where we used to live. But slowly we started getting used to it and I'm not gonna lie, what also helped is that we got a new addition to the family.....drum roll please...........

Meet Luna our new most treasured family member. She's barely 6 months and still pretty small but don't let that fool you, she's really feisty.

(But isn't she so cute? By the way my sister took this picture, all the credit goes to her. I fail at photography.)

(If you just want more pictures of Luna skip to the end!)

As for what I've been doing these past couple of months....well I've bought a couple of books throughout the months that I was gone but I haven't read some of them just yet. I haven't done much reading.  Don't throw rocks. *ducks* I've mostly spent my time with my family and working on jewelry (I might open an etsy shop, but I'm still debating, more info later). As for why I haven't been reading....well I decided to take a mini break but I've still read, just not as much as I did before....which made me really miss it terribly. And also made me realize how attached I am to my blog because not posting anything made me ache to do so. But we changed internet providers and......well the wifi we have now really sucks, it goes super slow and just buffers all the time. We might have to change internet providers....AGAIN.

These are the books I bought in the past 6 months. On a side note I still can't seem to take good pictures but Luna's in it. Lol but only because I bribed her with a treat. I planned on making an Instagram but I really suck at taking photo's (if this photo isn't a big indication then you need to see all my other photo's, seriously I'm terrible) but I still might. Just be warned it'll mostly be books and dog photo's. And that's about it, you guys.

As promised...Luna pictures!

This was her as a 2-3 month old puppy....

Now this is her in the present at 6 months...haha in most of these she's fast asleep! They grow so fast! *wipes tears*

Thank you to all that have stopped by! I hope you all have an amazing day and I hope Luna brightened your day by at least a little! ;)
