Waiting on Wednesday: Dark Shimmer by Donna Jo Napoli

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This weeks book that I'm desperate to get my hands on:

Dark Shimmer by Donna Jo Napoli

Publication: September 8, 2015

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Retelling, Historical

Goodreads Summary

Set in medieval Venice, this captivating fairy tale retelling by award-winning author Donna Jo Napoli explores belonging, beauty, and the transformative power of love through the eyes of a teenage girl. Dolce has grown up hidden away on an island in a lagoon. She is a giant, a freak, tormented by everyone but her loving mother. She spends her time learning the valuable secret of making mirrors. Following a tragedy, Dolce swims away and lands on an island where people see her as normal, even beautiful. Marin, a kind widower, and his little daughter bring Dolce to live with them in their grand palazzo. Eventually, Dolce and Marin marry. She secretly continues to make mirrors, not realizing that quicksilver endangers her . . . and so evil begins in innocence.

Why I'm desperate for Dark Shimmer:

I gotta admit, that apart from the cover being pretty amazing (and creepy which I love) this seems like just the kind of read I've been looking for recently. A retelling of Snow White from the Evil Queen's point of view!!! B-but it doesn't come out until September!!

*cries and reaches out to book heaven desperately*

  2. Definitely curious about this one! Love the cover as well! I read a book by her soooo many years ago when I was a kid. It was a middle grade book, something to do with a girl taking care of a baby bunny. LOL! Can't remember the book well except for the cover!
