My Review
Before I go into my my review I'd like to admit that although I was looking for an action-packed adventure, this book exceeded my expectations! Dreamscape is about Alex, a sixteen-year-old who hates her parents for making her move just when her school and love life were going the way she wanted. And in an act of rebellion she decides to stay up all night playing a game she used to love as a kid, only to get sucked into it with no way out except to become a hero.
I admit I didn't like Alex at first, she seemed to be immature and childish and frankly irritated me quite a bit. But I'm glad I continued because throughout Alex's journey through the game she comes to learn a lot of who she is and coming to terms with life being just the exact opposite of what you have planned. She goes through a great amount of character growth and I loved watching her blossom into a lovable character.
Alex meets a couple of people in her journey but one person in particular pushes her to reflect on what type of person she wants to be. And that is Arrow her love interest and just the person she needs to push her to the limit and make her realize that she's capable of so many things. Their romance was a perfect addition to the book! They were sweet and caring towards each other but also bickered like an old couple, which made me laugh a lot.
Dreamscape was definitely a wonderful surprise! I wasn't grabbed from the very start but as I read farther into it, it became a book I couldn't put down! It was a fast-paced and very adventurous read and I'm extremely happy I didn't let my first impressions stop me from reading it until the end. If you want to know if Alex manages to lead a rebellion, save the queen, be with the person she loves and escape the game then you're gonna have to read it for yourself because I'm not telling.
